The Importance of Pre-Lubrication
The importance of pre-lubricating cannot be overemphasized. Many engines are badly damaged within the first few minutes of operation, because of the lack of lubrication to vital parts. Parts such as pistons, rings, cylinder walls, and bearings must have immediate lubrication to prevent scuffing, scoring, and bearing damage. In some cases, it can take as long as five minutes of engine operation for the oil pump to prime itself, fill the oil passages and oil filter, then deliver oil to the various parts of the engine. This unnecessary damage can be prevented by lubricating the parts before starting the engine. This provides immediate lubrication to all pressure lubricated parts and eliminates the time-lag that occurs in the oil pump priming itself and filling the oil galleries when the engine is first started.
